Kathmandu videos is a website that updates daily showing videos of this unique place in the Himalayan country of Nepal. The purpose of the site is to promote Kathmandu tourism before Nepal gets on the beaten track and is overtaken by all the gadgets and luxuries that appear when a country finally becomes a tourist haven.
One of my lasting memories of Kathmandu is of being shown around local villages by school children that are learning to speak English and the pure honesty displayed by their innocence. The Nepalese are truly a race of beautiful people unspoilt by “Westernization” at this moment.
The guides all like to be photographed and please take their addresses so that you can mail photo’s that include the children back to them after you return home and process your snaps. The children are thrilled when somebody takes the trouble to do this and will use the photographs as references to future tourist clients.
Another little gift that I always carry when travelling, being Australian, is a pocketful of small metal Australian flags that can be pinned to the lapel. In Sydney we pay $1 each for these little gifts and I usually buy 20 or so before starting a trip. Locals are thrilled when you remove the flag/badge from your own lapel and pass it to them as a gift. I have used these all over the world and get the same reaction from everybody. In a country like Nepal where there are few tourists the response to giving such gifts is unbelievable and often repaid with acts of total kindness and acceptance.
There are National Parks within close proximity of Kathmandu and with Mount Everest as a backdrop it is hard to lose your bearings when trekking.
Nepal tourism is a very small industry at the moment and this is why now is the time to visit because in years to come the entire place will become homogenised with major hotels and plastic fittings and bars on every street corner. When this happens the true tourists seek somewhere new and leave a destination for those seeking home from home.
The site Kathmandu videos purposefully avoids using the best viewed videos in favour of using the most recent videos because they feel it is better to use what is fresh rather than what is most popular.
